If you are a regular Chick in the Mitt visitor, you know that we want our readers to join us in our journey to See, Hear, Touch, Taste and Feel the state we adore. Notice we have never mentioned Smell…until today.
Recently, we were invited to experience Alchemy, which is a life-style boutique and spa offering facials, henna, handmade goods and atelier workshops. During our visit, Courtney and I experienced a workshop where we created our own botanical perfume using the art of blending plant essences. This experience was totally out of the ordinary and is not only educational but also encourages relaxation and creativity.
The beautiful materials for our workshop.
The holidays will be here in the blink of an eye and if you’re like us, you still have some shopping to do. We at Chick in the Mitt have a passion for our state and love all the different Michgian-made products available…but we know they are sometimes hard to find. So to make it easy for ya we compiled a list of our favorite local places where you can finish up that shopping list! We encourage you to shop local this holiday season to support our state and keep Michigan businesses thriving.
We LOVE anything & everything Michigan so when we find businesses like Art is in Market, Mitten Crate or Live Love Michigan, we feel like it is our Michigander duty to share the wealth & knowledge with all of our followers. My recent experience at a Ferndale based business was without a doubt one of the best. Rust Belt Market is THE PLACE for artists, collectors, and shoppers who admire the Mitten State as much as we do.
Rust Belt is an artist & vintage market that is open year-round and full of Made in Michigan vendors. Hour Detroit named Rust Belt the “Best Place to Buy Local Craft” for two years straight (2013 & 2014) for a reason. From coffee to furniture and art to clothing, Rust Belt Market has something for everyone… especially the Michigan lover. (more…)
Next time you are craving a taste of all the greatness Michigan has to offer, you can skip the cross state road trip and just head to Ferndale. M-Brew offers a “grab and go” or “hot to order” menu of the Great Lakes state’s finest products. Think Pasties, Pinconning Pizza made with Michigan cheese and flour, 30 Michigan beers on tap, Traverse City cherry & beef brisket chili and Bavarian Style Frankenmuth fried chicken. This place is sure to give you your Made in Michigan fix!
Beer. Wine. Coffee. Food.
Ferndale is lined with delicious & unique restaurants, always making the decision of where to fulfill your tastebud’s desires a difficult one. Public House’s simple, but exceptional menu has the ability to meet every craving for all types of eaters.
Nine Mile, Ferndale.
