We were recently introduced to a local Michigan non-profit, Fleece & Thank You and to say we are inspired is an understatement. Established by Nicholas Kristock in 2015, and inspired by a little girl named Sophie who was spending her childhood in the hospital instead of playing, their mission is to provide a seed of hope for children as they arrive at the hospital by providing a fleece blanket for them. It doesn’t stop there, they connect the “blanket buddy” (a person who makes or donates a fleece blanket) to the “warrior” (child battling the life-threatening illness who is receiving the blanket) attaching a code that links to a video connecting the donor to the cause, while also allowing the child who receives the blanket to feel more connected and special because they can see the face and hands that helped make it.

Art is in Market
A while back we told you all about our incredible experience at Toasted Oak Grill & Market when we visited there for brunch. Recently this classic Novi spot has become Chick in the Mitt’s favorite meeting place. We love posting up in their market for Happy Hour enjoying some Michigan favorites while working to make the blog exactly what our readers are looking for!
Toasted Oak loves Michigan
It is no secret that we enjoy good food, we made a job out of it! We do not call ourselves foodies, but we think our job of checking out new & local spots gives us the right to share what we like to call the best… so here are our FAVORITE sandwich spots of 2014! (more…)
The holidays will be here in the blink of an eye and if you’re like us, you still have some shopping to do. We at Chick in the Mitt have a passion for our state and love all the different Michgian-made products available…but we know they are sometimes hard to find. So to make it easy for ya we compiled a list of our favorite local places where you can finish up that shopping list! We encourage you to shop local this holiday season to support our state and keep Michigan businesses thriving.
There are few things I love in this world more than a brunch. What could be better than a leisurely meal with friends or family that usually and a mimosa or two? If you are a brunch lover like me I HIGHLY recommend trying the “out-of-the-box” menu items at Toasted Oak.
Picasso Café’s motto is that “every sandwich is a work of art” and in my opinion everything they serve is a work of art! From the well thought out sandwiches and wraps to the savory soups, Picasso Café should become your new go-to lunch spot!

Picasso Café in Novi
Because Bibimbab is tucked away in an empty mall, without any exterior signage I assumed that this Korean BBQ restaurant was easy to walk right into and get a table – boooyyyy was I wrong. This place had a line out the door and after my meal I knew EXACTLY why.
What many diners have already discovered is that Bibimbab offers a massive menu with authentic Korean and Japanese dishes including unique noodles, rice bowls, sushi and Korean BBQ – which you grill right at the table! It is a unique dining experience, to say the least!
Every once in a while it is nice to treat yourself to a spa experience fit for a queen. Sure, we all appreciate our $35 mani/pedi deal at the local nail salon, but nothing beats the real experience at a European-style spa that has a mission of “exceeding your expectations.” I can promise that Visions Spa Salon will provide nothing short of perfection when servicing you and your beauty needs.
Entering relaxation mode.
Steve & Rocky’s in Novi is one of those “go-to” restaurants. A place that you can recommend to people, take friends, have an event, and frequent for lunch or dinner and feel confident that you will be satisfied.
