Born and raised in Michigan – I did what most high school graduates do …move away. It took a year of international volunteer work, moving to Mexico, graduating from college and doing a ton of traveling to realize the place I really wanted to be was home.
After returning to Michigan I moved to Novi with my girlfriends and pursued a career in Marketing. During that time, I rediscovered Metro-Detroit and fell in love with the city I grew up in.
Fast forward to present day – I am happily married to a fellow Michigander and we live in Union Lake….along with the rest of my HUGE family and wonderful friends. I followed my heart’s desire and started the Good Girl Comeback – a nonprofit organization that encourages teen girls to become independent thinkers and virtuous leaders.
My hope for this blog is to inspire others to see the beauty that is all around Metro-Detroit. And above all to live a life that awakens all of your senses.
Many people have difficulty understanding why one chooses to start their life after college right where they were born & raised. For me, that was not a tough decision, Michigan is where my heart is.
After growing up in what we call “the lakes area”, going away to college on the west side of the state (Go Broncos!), and returning to student teach, I met the love of my life (who happened to be from the same area) and took up residence about a mile from the High School we both call our alma mater.
This mitten state that I call home is not only my favorite place because many of my friends & family surround me, but also because it has so much to offer for everyone. I am a proud Michigan special educator who has a passion for friends, family, fashion, (meatless) food, travel, giving back, and most importantly, being present in the redevelopment of my favorite city in the world, Detroit.
