Delicious New Menu at Tom’s Oyster Bar

It’s been years since I dined at Tom’s Oyster Bar, so when I heard they hired Executive Chef Norman Fenton (who redid the entire menu) I thought it was time to give this place another visit and try their new dishes. To say we were impressed is an understatement, the menu options far exceeded your “typical” seafood dishes and were anything but ordinary!

Spot.

Tom’s Oyster Bar is located at 318 S Main St, Royal Oak, MI 48067. The restaurant is situated in the center of downtown Royal Oak. There is paid street parking surrounding and there are also several parking lots nearby.

Cost.

The price point at this restaurant is very reasonable for the caliber of seafood served. We chatted with the chef while dinning and he was very passionate about how “choosey” they are about where they get their seafood and how they store it to maintain freshness. It is something that you can definitely notice – everything is FRESH, FRESH, FRESH! The dishes range from $5-$15 for appetizers and the main dishes are $15-$35.  The crab boil was my personal favorite. it’s packed with Alaskan king crab, corn, potatoes, shrimp and seasoned to perfection!

Vibe.

The vibe is exactly what you want it to be at a seafood restaurant. Charming checkered table clothes, cozy and relaxed atmosphere and friendly servers all around. If you want a real treat, sit at the bar and order a Spanish Coffee from Frank the bartender. Prepare to be amazed!

Longtime Luncher at Jennifer’s Cafe

I have been going to Jennifer’s Cafe for as long as I can remember. My mom would always take me to meet an aunt or my grandma for a “girls lunch.” The memories I have there are almost as good as the food – which is absolutely fantastic!

The menu is the perfect assortments of options for lunch; soups, salads, wraps and a variety of fresh entrees. I have tried lots of dishes but I do have my staples….maurice salad, #14 chicken sandwich and the cookies – they are the size of your face and delicious.

Stumbling Upon 51 North Brewery

My husband Dan and I had some time to kill before meeting our friends for dinner in Lake Orion. We were casually walking around their quaint downtown area when we stumbled upon 51 North Brewery.

As we walked through their patio into the spacious bar, Dan and I both thought the same thing…”this is the perfect neighborhood spot.”  Once we sat down and looked around, we realized our intuition was spot on! 51 North has mug club memberships, open mic night, live bands and a fabulous menu of Michigan craft beers – all designed to keep people coming back. They even have their own t-shirts!

Epicurean Group’s Delightful Plaza Deli

If you haven’t heard of The Epicurean Group then surely you have heard of or frequented one of their outstanding restaurants; Coach Insignia, Epic Café, Northern Lakes Seafood, Novi Chophouse, the new and highly anticipated Atwater in the Park or Plaza Deli. I recently found myself craving a deli sandwich and in my experience, you cannot just go to any restaurant to fulfill that type of craving, you must make your way to a deli. I am a sucker for delis, a creature of habit and definitely have my favorites, but my recent experience at Plaza Deli has added this place to the list.

This greek salad will keep you coming back!

In my opinion, the two most important qualities of a GOOD greek salad is…..the amount of feta cheese and the quality of the dressing. At Twins Coney Island they nail it on both accounts.

This salad is one that I dream about. I always order mine chopped and with chicken and they pile on the fresh veggies and feta. Now on to the dressing….I have asked for their secret recipe but it still remains a secret. Their greek dressing is the creamy, pink type that is a little bit sweet. After doing some research online I learned that the pink coloring comes from adding beet juice – but whatever they are doing, it’s working – this dressing is CRAVE-WORTHY!

Supino Pizzeria… Detroit Thin Crust Done Right.

Supino Pizzeria is known to many as Detroit’s best pizza.  I am ashamed to say that I only recently visited Supino’s.  As many times as I have walked by there, I have always had other meal plans or the line was out the door and I was too impatient.  I am disappointed that I have been missing out on that thin crust deliciousness all this time, but plan to make myself a regular anytime I am downtown Detroit.  Supino’s has been recognized on many best of Detroit lists, by Guy Fieri on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, and is truly a favorite of many real Detroiters… need I say more?
